Known for her exquisite looks, grace, wit, and intelligence, April Bernard was once the most sought after woman from Cairo to Buenos Aires. The global network of high-society men all felt a pang of jealousy when she consented to marry her inamorato William - the dashing heir to the Jorgenson fortune. With the world at their feet, the stunning couple wiled away their days flying from one party to the next, mingling with heads of state and the most famous of heroes, enjoying all the benefits of their wealth and beauty. Although she led a life of whim and leisure, April's love for William was genuine and sustained her need for a sense of connection and belonging. Unknown to those around her, April suffered a profound fear of losing her position as a desirable woman. Unable to form strong emotional bonds with anyone but William, her only source of connection to other people was through their fawning admiration. This dark seed of insecurity existed in her heart long before the doomed flight from Quito to Chicago that forever changed her life.

Waking in a cage of twisted steel, April had no memory of the plane crash or its cause. Reaching to clear the blood from her eyes, April felt her pulverized face - her shrieks of horror went unheard in the cacophony of sounds filling the jungle that now surrounded her. Her panic only redoubled at the sight of her beloved William, mangled beyond repair, destined never to leave the plane's fiery embrace. As the flames moved along the fuselage towards her, April wrenched her body from the wreckage and fell to the ground, her blood soaking into the soft loamy earth.

April was shocked back to consciousness by the ants that swarmed the scene of destruction. Drawn by the scent of death, they were only the first to emerge from the jungle to feed off her anguish. Teeming with life from every crevice, the voracious jungle seemed to be a living, breathing entity itself. April lay helpless in the face of this dispassionate universe, consumed by sorrow and anger. Indignant that such a calamity could strike her perfect life, grieving the death of the only one she loved, and afraid that she might die alone in this terrifying place, April withdrew into the black hole that took hold of her heart.

Welcoming this sense of oblivion, she embraced the darkness that had always been a part of her. In this state, she did not notice the band of men who silently moved through the jungle toward her. Emerging like ghosts, they gently lifted April and carried her away. April awoke weeks later feeling strong and healthy. A diminutive woman with dark skin, regal appearance, and kind eyes offered her a sweet, warm liquid. Drinking the potent brew, April realized these people had taken her in and nursed her back to health.

Knowing nothing about her, the villagers slowly accepted April into their lives. As the remaining links to her former life faded from her blackened heart, the leaders of the village realized April's potential as a warrior and offered to train her in their ways. Learning a potent combination of paramilitary techniques and survival skills, she joined the struggle against their oppressive government. For years, she rarely spoke and lived alone in the small cabin constructed for her, only emerging to battle for these people who accepted her. She was not motivated by physical or monetary reasons, but solely by her ever-increasing skill as a defender of their village. Admired for both her weapons mastery and her reckless aggression despite her own physical vulnerability, April was eventually bestowed with the honored name Ixtab, after the Maya goddess of suicide and death.

Although she found some satisfaction in this life of simplicity and violence, April eventually felt compelled to return to Paragon City to see what had become of those she left behind. Had they missed her? Mourned her? Although she expected shock at her mutilated appearance, April did not anticipate the cruelty and disgust directed at her by those she once believed to be her friends. Shunned as a freakish outcast, April saw for the first time how shallow and corrupt her previous life had been. Retreating from their sadistic derision, April felt the last remaining link to her past wither within her and die. She entirely embraced her new self as Ixtab. Fully transformed, Ixtab began to plot the downfall of those who had once pandered to her. These fools would once again beg for her attentions, only this time it would be out of pain and suffering instead of admiration.

Ixtab was captured in the midst of a brutal attack on her former best friend, and the Paragon City police quietly locked the cold-hearted Corruptor away in the Zig. As her hatred of her previous life festers within her, Ixtab awaits the opportunity to achieve her ultimate goal - the destruction of all who now inhabit her former home, Paragon City.

ORIGIN: Ixtab gained her powers in a Natural way. Her powers were not handed to her though some whim of magic or science. She had to struggle for her abilities with good old-fashioned diligence and determination--qualities that she now plans to apply to the destruction of others.

PRIMARY POWER: Part of Ixtab's paramilitary training in the Guatemalan jungle included mastering the impressive arsenal of munitions and firing modes of her Assault Rifle. This accurate weapon allows Ixtab to deal massive amounts of damage at range with the latest targeting technology.

SECONDARY POWER: During her study of advanced weaponry, Ixtab also gained an in depth knowledge of Traps. These devices and gadgets cripple foes while buffing Ixtab and her allies, thus providing great tactical advantage.

AVATAR SELECTION: Toned by years of intensive training, Ixtab is a tall, slender woman with powerful shoulders and an athletic build.

COSTUME CREATION: Ixtab's disfigured face reflects only a shadow of her former beauty, now hidden beneath the scars crisscrossing her gruesome visage. Ixtab's comfortable clothing allows unrestricted movement and has sufficient storage space for her extensive gear and ammo.

BREAK OUT: Now free from the Zig, Ixtab plots revenge on those who turned their backs on her. Embracing her identity as the goddess of death and suicide, Ixtab's animosity is both calculated and deadly. With the knowledge that Lord Recluse can assist her, Ixtab now begins her climb up the ranks of Arachnos with the sole desire to bring down the leaders and heroes of Paragon City.
